News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
A fire, rescue, and emergency medical services expo will be held Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Village Green Park in Sisters, according to Dave Wheeler, fire marshal for the Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire Protection District (RFPD).
Fire fighting vehicles, ambulances, and emergency rescue equipment from throughout Central Oregon will be on display.
“Among the agencies participating besides the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District with our fire trucks and ambulance will be the Black Butte Fire Department, Cloverdale Rural Fire Department, Oregon Department of Forestry, and U. S. Forest Service,” Wheeler explained. “AirLife, Deschutes County 9-1-1, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, American Red Cross, Oregon State Fire Marshal, and the Safe Kids Campaign all will be here.”
The expo is part of a national Emergency Medical Services week May 15- 21 organized to help children and parents learn what to do in case of an emergency.
“We’ll be serving hot dogs, chips, and soft drinks during the event,” Wheeler added.
9-1-1 will bring their phone system for children to practice making calls, Cloverdale fire district will have a water slide and the fire marshal’s office will bring an escape trailer. Smokey Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog will be on hand to greet the children.
“If we have any rain, we will move some of the demonstrations and displays into our station bays across the street,” Wheeler said.
The expo has been held annually in the past, but was canceled in recent years because of major wildfires in the area.
