News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Outlaws defeated Culver 7-5 and 11-0 in a doubleheader on Friday, May 13.
In the first game the Outlaws jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Jeff Fitter and Jeff Sampson singled and Nate Jackson got a double.
Culver came back in the second to tie the game 3-3.
Sisters added a run in the third and held the lead the remainder of the game. Additional single runs for the Outlaws came in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
One offensive highlight for Sisters came in the fourth inning when Taylor Davenport hit a solo home run to left field.
“It seemed it was hit as high as it was hit far,” said Coach Kevin Bigby. “He really hit it good.”
Tyler Trask started off the pitching for the Outlaws and Nate Jackson came in for the last four innings.
Fitter went 3-3 with two doubles and Carter Davenport was 2-3. Jeff Sampson was 2-4 with a double and two runs batted in.
The second game of the doubleheader started off the same way. Sisters took an early lead, going up 4-0 on Culver in the first inning.
The Outlaws finished the game with 13 hits with multiple hits from several players.
Taylor Davenport went 3-3 with a double. Fitter and Sampson both went 2-3 in the game. Andy Burke was 2-3 including a double and three RBI.
Hayden Mayea hit a two-run homer over left center in the third.
Bigby said, “Several Outlaw hits and capitalizing on a few Culver errors led to a big advantage for us today. We finished the game due to the 10-run rule just as the rain started to pour.
“It was nice to see Jeff (Fitter) come out of his batting slump,” added Bigby. “Jeff has his swing back and all week long he’s been a huge plus for our team offensively.”
The Outlaws will face Cascade on Friday, May 20 for their first game in the District playoffs. The winner will advance to play the number two team from the Skyline Conference.
