Sisters youth team takes first at PPP

Lee Elder, Kody Johns, Lucas Rietmann, Ben Freeland, Max Quinn and Wesley Ford competed in the Pole Pedal Paddle Race on Saturday, May 14 in Bend.

The “Six Musketeers” won first place in the boys age 13-15 competition, completing the relay in 2 hours and 23 minutes.

Lucas Rietmann began the race on Mt. Bachelor with the Alpine event. He came down the mountain in third place out of the 50 skiers.

He tagged Wesley Ford who completed the five-mile Nordic course in less than 30 minutes. Ben Freeland rode his bike down the mountain for 22 miles until he reached Kody Johns who ran a five-mile course to the river. He tagged Lee Elder who paddled a kayak for 1.5 miles in 22 minutes. Sprinter Max Quinn ran to the finish line.

Several other Sisters teams and individuals competed, including the male pairs team “Rim” in the 35-44 age group. They placed sixth in their division at 2:10:22.

Jeff Wester competed as an individual in the 40-44 age group. He battled his way to a 13th-place finish at 2:32:30.

Thomas Schneiger of Camp Sherman placed first in the male individual 60-64 category, clocking a 2:30:27 time and Marcia Tripiano completed the course in 3:40:35 in the female 60-64 category.

Siobahn Cooper of Sisters clocked a 2:31 time to make an impressive third-place showing in the female individual 25-29 category.

“Rudy’s Racers” represented the younger set (1-12) with a 2:21:04 time.
