News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Three Sisters teens escaped injury in a shooting incident in northeast Bend that led to a stand-off between Bend police and the alleged shooter, but ended peacefully with the arrest of 19-year-old Christopher Jason Cardonia.
According to Bend police, officers responded to a shots-fired call in the area of 20874 Nova Loop in Bend just after 2 a.m. on Friday, May 13.
Bryan Henry, 19, Mark Adam MacPherson, 18, and a 15-year-old, all of Sisters, were reportedly seated in a car near that address when a man approached the vehicle and fired several shots at them.
The suspect fled. None of the victims in the car were injured.
Investigators determined that Cardonia was the shooter, Bend Police reported, and they located him at 20874 # 2 Nova Loop, along with several other people.
The Central Oregon Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) was deployed. Police negotiators were able to talk all of the occupants out of the residence without incident.
According to police reports, a search warrant was served at the residence and the weapon involved in the incident was recovered.
Nearby Lava Ridge Grade School and Skyview Middle School were locked down during the negotiations. Several streets in the area were also closed.
The incident may have been a case of mistaken identity. Police report that “it appears that the three victims who were shot at may have been misidentified by the suspect. The victims were in the neighborhood visiting a resident close to 20874 Nova. There are no known associations between the suspect and the victims.”
Cardonia was arrested on charges of: Attempted Murder; Attempted Assault 1; Unlawful Use of a Firearm; Criminal Mischief; Recklessly Endangering.
