News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The 13th annual Memorial Day Ceremony in honor of fallen military men and women will be held on Monday, May 30 at the Village Green starting at 11 a.m.
The ceremony has been moved from its previous location at Camp Polk Cemetery to better accommodate attendees.
The guest speaker will be Gene Whisnant, State Representative of District 53. A military exercise will be conducted by the Naval Junior ROTC from Crook County High School in Prineville.
A chorale group from Sisters High School will perform and members of the Leadership Class from Sisters High School will help in the production of the program. Limited seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
“As memories of the sacrifice paid by our heroes in previous conflicts fade we are reminded of the price paid for freedom by current losses in Iraq,” said event organizer Jack Berry.
“Those of us who are members of the Sisters Veterans Groups, The American Legion and The Veterans of Foreign Wars, will continue the tradition of holding a Memorial Day ceremony as long as we are able. This summer we will hold a membership drive to enlist new members in the Legion and the VFW.”
