Three baseball players earn all league honors

Jeff Fitter, Andy Burke and Blake Poynor all earned first team all league honors for their performance this season.

Fitter earned first team all league as pitcher.

“Jeff was a workhorse for us this year,” said Coach Kevin Bigby. “He threw about 50 innings and had an ERA of 3.37. He ended the season 4-5 but was involved in several games that came down to one or two runs which could have easily gone either way.”

Andy Burke took first team honors at infield. Burke’s batting average was .438 and he ended the season with 10 singles, 10 doubles, one triple, one home run and 16 RBI.

“Andy had an exceptional season,” said Kevin. “In additional to his hitting he was outstanding defensively, not only as our third baseman but also in right field.”

Blake Poynor earned first team all-league as an outfielder. Poynor batted .325 during the season for the Outlaws.

“Blake came on really strong at the end of the season,” said Bigby. “He finished with a seven game hitting streak that really caused his hitting stats to go up. Several of those hits were instrumental in our ability to win the games.”

Honorable mention went to Ben Bushnell at first base and Jeff Sampson at catcher.

“Ben was a real solid leader as a senior. He was very positive, demonstrated strong leadership skills and played first base very well,” said Bigby. Sampson hit .244 for Sisters.

“Jeff had quite a few timely hits for us and drove in runners in clutch situations,” the coach said.
