Ace golfer wins scholarship

Senior Kayla Miller signed a letter of intent with Lewis and Clark State College (LC) in Lewiston, Idaho and will join its women’s golf team next fall. The scholarship will cover out-of-state tuition, room and board and additional money for each semester.

Miller’s former teacher, Lil Conrad of Enterprise, Oregon, has kept up on Miller’s accomplishments since moving to Sisters and was instrumental in LC contacting Kayla. Conrad called her friend, Lewis and Clark golf coach Steve Tilden, and told him about Miller. Miller was definitely interested.

Kayla has been playing golf since eighth grade. She placed second at District both her freshman and sophomore years at Enterprise. Her sophomore year she placed sixth at State.

Miller moved to Sisters her junior year and took second at the State Championships. This year Miller was the District champ and placed 13th overall at State.

“I’m really excited about going to Lewis and Clark,” said Miller. “I went and played with the girls over there right before our season started in March. All the girls seemed really competitive and fun and it looks like we’re going to have a good team. They’re only losing one girl and everybody else will be back. We should be really strong.”

Miller will play both fall and spring seasons for the Lady Warriors. The LC girls’ golf team is currently ranked 14th nationally in the NAIA.
