News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Outlaws girls golf team had an outstanding season, finishing first at district and third at the State Championships.
All four seniors on the team earned all-league recognition. Kayla Miller and Krystal Fitter were named first team all league and Brittany Reed and MacKinzie McClain were selected second team all league.
“Kayla was our number-one golfer all season,” said Coach Mary Flande. “She came from behind on the first day of district only to shoot her best round of the season on the second day (76). This launched her into first place and she was the district champion.”
Flande said, “Krystal was the picture of a very consistent golfer for the season. Krystal worked very hard on her game this season and her dedication really showed in her golf game this year. Krystal has the respect of her teammates, peers and other coaches in the league. She’s just started to reach her potential in golf.”
Flande noted that, “Brittany was one of the most improved golfers of the year. Brittany continued to work on her game throughout the season and her efforts paid off in a big way. Brittany played her best golf at the end of the season. She had her best two rounds at the district tournament and then followed up those rounds with two very solid rounds of 94 at the state tournament.”
McClain played at the number-three spot for the Lady Outlaws for most of the season and according to Flande improved her game each week.
“She (McClain) practiced hard and led by example,” said Flande.
“She was one of the most enjoyable kids to have on the team. Her fun and enthusiastic attitude was contagious.”
In addition to all league honors the entire team of five earned All District recognition. Miller, Fitter and Reed were all selected first team all district, and McClain and freshman Alexis Wainwright were named to the second team.
“Alexis was the lone freshman on the team,” said Mary. “She has a very good golf game that is only going to get better over the next three years. She played a lot of golf this season and I’m sure her efforts will pay off in the future. Alexis has that ‘can do’ attitude and I’m looking forward to her leadership on this team next season.”
