News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The 65th PRCA Sisters Rodeo is fast approaching with four performances scheduled for June 10-12, according to Glenn Miller, president of the Sisters Rodeo Association. Some 404 entries have been received for the events with all participants seeking their share of the more than $120,000 in prize money.
“Even after 65 years, rodeo fans will see some new features at this rodeo,” Miller said. “We have a new lighted scoreboard supplied by Copenhagen this year. It will have scoring information for each event as well as advertising. In addition, fans will notice that our parking lots now are covered with grass after we seeded last year and acquired irrigation rights.”
New major sponsors are participating this year, Miller added. “We still have Les Schwab as our Friday evening sponsor and Pepsi as the Sunday afternoon sponsor. New sponsors this year are McDonald’s of Sisters as our Saturday afternoon sponsor and The Hotel Mallory in Portland as the Saturday evening sponsor.”
Several new local sponsors are supporting the rodeo this year. Sisters Tree Service and Tewalt and Sons Excavation are sponsors for this year’s entertainment, “The One-Arm Bandit,” Miller said.
“The new Hitching Post store in Sisters is helping to sponsor champion rodeo clown Flint Rasmussen. The store will have a number of giveaway prizes during the rodeo,” he said.
Other local sponsors support the individual events, he added.
Frank Beard of Ellensburg, Washington again will provide stock for this year’s rodeo.
“He provides stock for the National Finals Rodeo and keeps improving the stock each year,” Miller said. “The cowboys really like what he brings to our rodeo each year.”
Tickets are still available for most performances. Call the ticket hotline at (541) 549-0121 in Central Oregon, (800) 827-7522 outside the area, or stop by the ticket office at 220 West Cascade Avenue in Sisters.
