News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Col. Lyle S. McCabe, U.S.M.C. Ret. was laid to rest last April at Arlington National Cemetery.
Burial at Arlington is a signal honor for U.S. military personnel. McCabe was the father of Sisters resident Maureen Bidasolo, who traveled to Arlington, Virginia for the service with full military honors.
McCabe served in the South Pacific during World War II and in the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Gold Star, The Air Medal with Gold Star, The Presidential Unit Citation, The Navy Unit Citation and the Theater Ribbons.
He retired from the Marine Corps as a Colonel with 32 years of service.
“Although it was a sad occasion, the tribute to my father from his beloved Marine Corps was a very profound and moving experience for me,” Bidasolo said. “I encourage anyone who has the opportunity to attend this type of a ceremony to make the trip. It will be something they will never forget.”
