News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The annual Fourth of July weekend fund-raising breakfast for the Camp Sherman Community Association (CSCA) was held last Sunday, July 3.
Many hundreds of breakfast eaters filled the historic Community Hall continuously over the holiday morning. The summer weather allowed the overflow to use picnic tables adjacent to the hall on the outside lawn and enjoy their hearty breakfasts.
CSCA members served pancakes, ham, eggs, juice and coffee during the morning festivities. Friends, old and new, and visitors, shared stories of recent trips, new family additions, and plans for the summer during the informal, relaxing morning.
A photo gallery of past CSCA breakfasts lined the walls with pictures of participants over the years. Tonye Phillips snapped pictures of this year’s participants as they waited in the service line. Next year, these pictures will be added to the lineup.
Jefferson County Sheriff Jack Jones was in attendance with his family and commented, “The food must be good by the looks of the large crowd attending.”
At the CSCA annual meeting 24 hours earlier in the hall, Bruce Shaull was re-elected President for the coming year along with board members Tonye Phillips, Ellen Wood, Magda Schay, Jake Willoughby, Barbara Haynes, and Jon Sheldahl.
All were working at Sunday’s breakfast.
Also honored at the Saturday weekend meeting was Les Schell, promoted to Captain in the Sisters-Camp Sherman volunteer firefighters association. Shell is a resident of Camp Sherman’s Metolius Meadows and also volunteers at the local transfer station and recycling center.
At the Saturday meeting, Fire Chief Tay Robertson again reminded the gathering of the need for volunteer firefighters in the area.
Outside the hall, Clara Cool was set up and selling chances on this year’s Pine Needlers quilt to be raffled at the summer quilt show on Friday, July 8.
