News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Erik Hanson, 40, of Sahallee Country Club in Washington won the Oregon Open held at Aspen Lakes Golf Course in Sisters last week.
Hanson, a former Seattle Mariners pitcher, carded a three-day six-under-par to take home the title, ahead of a slate of professional golfers.
Hosting the tournament was a boon to the local golf course, where a major construction project for a new clubhouse is currently underway.
“Things went great. The weather was perfect and everyone really enjoyed the course,” said Aspen Lakes’ head golf professional Wayne Clark. “Our course superintendent Mark Shepherd had the course in immaculate condition.
“It was a good test for this golf course. It’s always been very popular as a recreational course, but as a tournament course it really proved its mettle,” he said.
Clark said the golfers found the course “challenging but fair.”
