News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Wheel Fun Rentals has opened shop on the lawn at the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center, renting surreys, “deuce coupes” and bicycles from 9 a.m. to sunset for hour-long tours of town.
Joanie Krehbiel is Wheel Fun Rentals’ Central Oregon representative. She has rentals at Black Butte Ranch and Eagle Crest and as far south as Sunriver.
A former recreation manager at Sunriver Resort, Krehbiel saw establishing herself at the chamber center as an ideal opportunity.
“It’ll just be a great spot,” she said.
“People stop in for information and can hop on a bike and ride around town.”
Wheel Fun Rentals offered its first rides last week and a bobbing “surrey with the fringe on top” was a common sight through the weekend.
Wheel Fun Rentals offers double surreys, holding six adults and two small children; single surreys carrying three adults and two kids; deuce coupes carrying two adults and two kids; tandem bikes and single-speed cruisers.
“It’s a great way to get around town,” Krehbiel said. “It’s a fun town to ride around in; there’s a lot to see.”
There are some rules and restrictions. The main one is that the bikes can’t be ridden along Cascade Avenue/Highway 20, although they are allowed to cross the highway in town.
Riders must follow the rules of the road.
Krehbiel’s first customers — Diamond Roberts, Carlie Miller, Jon Santiago and Brittany Sieverson — are locals who thought the bikes looked like fun.
“We saw it and decided to check it out,” Roberts said.
They rented a single surrey and toured the town.
The verdict?
“It’s really fun.,” Roberts said. “It goes pretty fast.”
