News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Authors will discuss poetry, wine and fiction

Oregon poets Lois Rosen and Virginia Corrie-Cozart will read from their work at Paulina Springs Books on Saturday, August 20.

Rosen will read from her first book, “Pigeons.” She has won numerous awards, including the Oregon Teachers as Writers Contest and the Oregon Poetry Association contest.

She recently retired from teaching English at Chemeketa Community College. Cozart is retired from teaching music in Salem. She was awarded the Ben Hur Lampman prize by The Oregonian and the Oregon State Poetry Association.

On Friday, August 26, Linda Kaplan of McMinnville will discuss “My First Crush: Misadventures in Wine Country.” She and her husband left secure middle-class Iowa to risk their retirement funds in an Oregon winery, about which they knew little.

Her first book is both funny and enlightening about the travails of making wine.

On Saturday, August 27, Peter Rock, a teacher at Reed College in Portland, will read from his coming anthology of short stories, “The Unsettling,” due out next year. A Yale graduate, he received a Wallace Stegner Fellowship at Stanford.

The events are free; refreshments are served and each features a drawing for a free book.

All events start at 6:30 p.m. Paulina Springs Books is located at 252 W. Hood Ave.
