News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Black Butte Ranch (BBR) Art Guild will hold its annual Art at the Ranch event featuring works of local artists on Friday and Saturday, September 2 and 3.
For well over 20 years, Ranch residents and artists have been sponsoring this fund-raising event to help support local school art projects and scholarships. Some proceeds have been used to support art supplies and projects in Sisters Elementary and Middle Schools. During the past year, the BBR Art Guild gave four $1,000 scholarships to outstanding graduating seniors from Sisters High School. Alyssa Boley, Tori Macpherson, Kaci Oerter, and Casey Pyke were the recipients this past June.
Friday’s event runs from 4 to 7 p.m. and includes an artist’s reception, viewing of local art works, a silent auction, appetizers and beverages.
During the event, Peggy’s Pin Pals, named for organizer Peggy Click-Taylor, will raffle off the quilt they have been working on this year. The group of women meet every Monday evening between 7 and 9 p.m. to work on the quilt.
Click-Taylor brought back Moose fabric from Alaska and each of the women in the group was given one moose to fashion into a block for the quilt. The finished quilt has 20 blocks. Ruth Ingham, one of Peggy’s Pin Pals, did the finishing detail and machine quilting for the Moose quilt.
Quilt raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20 and may be purchased from one of Peggy’s Pin Pals or at the BBR Lodge front desk.
An added attraction this year will be the appearance of some classic antique cars on display.
The affair will be held on the grass near the BBR recreation center and signs will be posted leading to the large tent. Everybody in the community is invited to attend this special event. Besides Art at the Ranch, the BBR Art Guild also sponsors a December home tour and the selection committee for high school scholarships. Events continue on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 595-1100 for more information.
