Festival announces contest finalists

Five songwriters will vie for a $750 cash prize and an evening performance slot on the main stage at the Sisters Folk Festival September 9-11.

The finalists in the Dave Carter Memorial Songwriting Contest have been selected from some 130 entries from all over the U.S.

This year’s finalists are Steve Kritzer, San Ramon, California; Eileen Hemphill-Hailey, Arcata, California; Dave Zandonatti, Bend; Anastasia Scott, Sisters; and Trevor Reichman, Portland.

The contest was re-named this year in honor of the late Dave Carter, who won the first Sisters Folk Festival Songwriting Contest in 1995.

Carter went on to an acclaimed career in folk music that was cut short by his untimely death in 2002.
