News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Gallery will host painter

William (Bill) Hamilton will be in residence at the Clearwater Gallery in downtown Sisters on Saturday, September 24.

He will be featured during the September in Sisters Art Stroll, which is scheduled for that Saturday afternoon, from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

Hamilton, who lives in Tumalo, works out of his home studio. He paints a wide variety of subjects in acrylic, oil, and watercolor. Snowcapped mountains, high desert landscape and local architecture are among some of his favorite subjects.

Hamilton, whose collector base and following has grown considerably this past year, originally studied commercial art at Oregon Tech and spent much of his adult life working in California for Westinghouse Electric as a technical artist. However, much of his spare time was spent drawing and painting for the pleasure of it.

After retirement he and his wife moved to Central Oregon where he has been able to devote full time to his passion.

His paintings often represent places he has been. “People like to buy things that they know,” said Hamilton.

His work features local themes: “Camp Sherman,” a vibrant watercolor of that community’s general store; “Llama Smirk,” an acrylic portrait of one of Central Oregon’s favorite animals; “Tower Theatre,” the downtown Bend landmark done in watercolor; or “Early Spring,” an acrylic that captures the majestic snowcapped mountains.

Clearwater Gallery owners Dan and Julia Rickards will host an artist reception during the art stroll. The gallery is located at 331 Cascade Ave. For information call 549-4994.
