News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The varsity volleyball squad participated in a 10-team tournament at Mt. View on Saturday, September 10.
The Lady Outlaws started by playing four teams in their pool. Sisters defeated Battleground of Vancover, Washington, 25-13, 25-13 and Salem Academy 25-22, 25-23. The Outlaws lost to both Summit 23-25, 19-25, and Mt. View 25-13, 25-15, to finish third in their pool.
Coach Chris Crosby said, “It was good to beat Battleground. They were bigger than we were. We did a really good job serving to keep them out of their rhythm.”
In the afternoon it was bracket play, single elimination and just one game to 25.
Sisters lost to LaSalle 25-15.
Of the LaSalle match Crosby said, “It was a tough match-up. They’ve got 6-foot-6-inch twins who are in the Guinness World Book of Records. They’re the tallest recorded set of female twins. They presented challenges defensively and offensively that nobody else can. They’re one of a kind in that regard. It’s not like we can practice against that. I’m 6-foot-4-inches and they’re bigger than me.”
Crosby told The Nugget his girls hadn’t played in a week and he was pleased with marked signs of improvement.
“Our defense is definitely our shining star right now,” said Crosby. “We’re scrappy and show a lot of determination, heart and hard work.”
The Outlaws will travel to Burns on Thursday, September 15.
