Stylist specializes in special events

When the big day rolls around — homecoming, the prom, a wedding — Tami Jones will be there to make sure your hair looks just the way you pictured it.

The new stylist at High Desert Hair specializes in “special event hair.”

“It’s more elaborate,” she said. “It’s usually updos — wedding accessories are placed in the hair.”

Jones knows that special days can be stressful and she goes out of her way to make sure the hairstyle is the easy part. She’ll work at the salon or come on-site to make things convenient.

“I do trials so they know what they’re getting so there’s no questions the day of the special event,” she said.

Of course she plies her craft on “everyday hair” as well and also specializes in color.

Jones is a recent transplant from California, where she owned her own shop for many years.

“A client of mine had a house up here and invited me to come up,” she recalled. “And two years later we moved.”

Both Tami and her husband Kent grew up in a small town “that kept getting bigger and bigger” and they missed that hometown feeling. They found it again here.

“It’s just the community where we wanted to raise our children,” she said.

The couple has three kids — Hayden, nine; McKenna, five; and Hudson, three.

Jones said she took her resumé — describing 16 years of experience — to all the hair salons in Sisters. She found everyone friendly and receptive, but she felt especially at home at High Desert Hair.

“This was the place where I felt they really needed me,” she said.

She’s also using her skills to help out folks in the community, volunteering to give free hair cuts for Head Start families through SOAR.

Jones is available Tuesday through Thursday and also on Saturday. For more information call High Desert Hair at 549-4495.
