Fire department opens burning season

Outdoor debris burning within the Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire Protection District and the Cloverdale Rural Fire Protection Districts opened Tuesday morning, October 4.

Recent rain and cool weather has decreased the risk of major wildfires, according to fire department officials. Residents desiring to burn must have on file a burn permit, obtainable at any district fire station. Campfires are allowed year-round, but must also have a permit.

Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire Chief Tay Robertson says that residents should be aware that fires can and often do escape during the month of October; therefore residents should make an extra effort to contain their fire by following the fire safety requirements prescribed within outdoor burning regulations which are available at all fire stations. Only approved debris can be burned which is outlined within the regulations.
