News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters will move to a 4A classification and become part of the Sky Em League if the OSSA (Oregon School Activities Association) Executive Board approves the Classification and Districting Committee’s final recommendation.
The Classification and Districting Committee for 2006-2010 met on September 26 to make its final recommendation.
The committee made its recommendations based on the following criteria:
• Improve competitive balance within a league.
• Minimize travel/expense for schools.
• Maintain current league alignments.
The OSAA Executive Board will consider the final recommendation on October 24.
Sisters High School received the proposal on Tuesday, September 27. High School Principal Bob Macauley told The Nugget that over the past 12 months all the proposals showed that the Capital Conference would stay the same.
“We were led to believe that the final proposal would only have the big schools deciding how they wanted their leagues to look,” said Macauley. “So we were completely surprised that on the final proposal the Capital Conference was completely dissolved.”
Sisters High School’s proposed 4A classification in the Sky Em League would put the Outlaws in competition with Cottage Grove, Junction City, Marist, La Pine, Elmira and Pleasant Hill.
“I’m happy the state has finally done something to reclassify and redistrict schools and now we all need to work together and make it work,” Macauley said.
Macauley said that the travel time involved will remain essentially the same.
