W. Dwaine Richins of Sisters died on October 21, 2005 of pneumonia and respiratory complications. He was 92.
Dwaine was born in the small farming community of Grouse Creek, Utah, to William Alma and Delois Hunter Richins. The family moved to Burley, Idaho, where Dwaine graduated from Burley High School in 1932. He attended Brigham Young University and received a BA degree in 1936 in Business Administration. Dwaine married Belva Margaret Parker on August 19, 1936.
Dwaine and Margaret traveled to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where Dwaine received his Master’s degree in Business Administration in 1938. He was Professor of Business at NTAC in Arlington, Texas during the war years where he taught Navy officers training.
In 1946, Dwaine and Margaret moved to Seattle, Washington, where Dwaine received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1950. In 1950, Dwaine continued his teaching career at the University of Oregon in Eugene where he taught Economics, Business Ethics and Social Responsibility in the School of Business. He also taught at Tektronix and Portland State University.
During 1966-1967, Dwaine was an exchange professor in the Netherlands. Dwaine, Margaret, their two sons and 18 University of Oregon students enjoyed many unique experiences traveling throughout Europe.
Dwaine enjoyed ham radio (W7 JSJ), photography, camping, boating, skiing, hiking and music. He played banjo, piano, and sang in quartets. He built their retirement home at Indian Ford near Sisters. Dwaine and Margaret enjoyed many years of motor home traveling in the U.S. and Canada and traveled together to China, Yugoslavia, Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, Russia and Europe.
Dwaine’s living family members include his wife, Margaret, daughter and son-in-law Belva and Carl Wilberg of Sacramento, California; son and daughter-in-law Bill and Ginger Richins of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and son and daughter-in-law Harold and Kathy Richins of Tahoe City, California; brother Grant Richins of Orem, Utah; sister LaDene Bingham of Salt Lake City, Utah; 11 grand-children and 11 great-grand-children. His daughter Janice Rocha died in 1994.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 28, at the LDS Chapel, 68885 Trinity Way.
