Fire damages Camp Sherman house

An early morning fire on Tuesday, October 25, caused extensive damage to a Camp Sherman house.

The Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire Protection District responded to the call at 8 a.m. The house, located at 13710 Forest Service Road 1419 just south of the Camp Sherman Fire Hall, was unoccupied at the time.

The fire apparently started on the second floor of the large A-frame structure and spread to the attic.

“There is considerable fire damage on the second floor and the attic with smoke damage to the first floor,” Fire Chief Tay Robertson said.

About 20 personnel from the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire Department were on the fire aided by the Black Butte Fire Department. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control on the road that is the main entrance to Camp Sherman. Two engines, two water tenders, and a medic crew were on the scene. No injuries have been reported.

Richard and Becky Skupa of Portland own the house. A renter in an adjoining structure on the property reported the fire, according to Chief Robertson.

Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire Marshall Dave Wheeler is conducting the investigation on the cause of the fire.
