News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Luck just didn’t follow the Outlaws into the postseason.
Tuesday, November 8, offered a perfect day for soccer in Sisters. The skies were blue and the field was in good shape. None of that mattered in the end when the Outlaws suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to Seaside.
Seaside scored just under the two-minute mark at the start of the game, which immediately forced the Outlaws into a catch-up situation.
Sisters responded well and controlled the ball most of the first half. Ryley Newport scored with a 25-yard unassisted shot into the right side of the net 15 minutes into the first half to tie the score 1-1.
Fifteen minutes into the second half Seaside scored the final goal of the game and took a 2-1 lead.
“It felt like the defense was in slow motion on the play,” said Coach Rich Hummell. “It was hard to tell what went wrong.”
Hummell said, “We played good ball. We just did not have luck on our side today. We had lots of missed scoring chances. We had several chances to bury it, but could not get it done. The kids played well but Seaside kept their composure and finished it off.”
All said and done it was still a great season for the boys soccer team. The Outlaws got the Sportsmanship Award, Rich Hummell was named Coach of the Year and the team earned first place in the Dairy Farmers Scholar Award.
“We couldn’t ask for anything more this year,” said Hummell. “I’m already looking forward to next season.”
