Coast Guard veteran visits classroom

Sisters first graders learned a little bit about Veterans Day and the American flag from Coast Guard veteran Leonard Knott of Sisters.

Knott visited with first graders on Thursday, November 10. The students shared their understanding of holidays and learned a bit about the reasons behind Veterans Day.

Knott explained the meaning behind the colors of the flag — red for bravery, white for purity and blue for unity. The students already knew that the stars represent states.

Each student received a small flag to keep from members of the Lions of Sisters and they watched as Knott demonstrated the proper method for folding a flag.
