News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaws ended their soccer season on Saturday, November 12, when they lost 5-0 to Wilsonville.
Wilsonville scored three of their goals in the first half of the game and added two more in the second.
Sisters only had one shot on goal the entire game.
Despite the loss, Coach Lee Bellahdid was proud of his girls and their successful season.
“We started our season early and worked hard every practice and that’s all I can ask for,” said Bellahdid. “I’m very proud of the girls. They played hard every moment of the game today and everyone did the best they could. But, today our best wasn’t enough. Wilsonville’s technical abilities are very good and there wasn’t anything we could fix right away on the field.”
Four days earlier the Lady Outlaws shut out the Baker Bulldogs 2-0 in the first round of the state playoffs.
The Lady Outlaws got on the scoreboard fifteen minutes into the first half. Rose Slavkovsky scored a goal into the lower left side of the net with a one touch finish off an assist from Liz Dale.
Audrey Tehan was responsible for Sisters’ second and final goal of the game. The ball was cleared from the back by stopper Annie Hancock. The very high ball bounced between Tehan and one of the Baker defenders. Baker’s keeper came out of the box and Tehan lofted the ball over the goalie’s head and into the net to give Sisters a 2-0 lead which would hold until the end of the game.
Coach Lee Bellahdid said, “It was a good goal for Audrey. After coming back from her injury I think it lifted her spirits and gave her confidence.”
Bellahdid noted the play of senior Rose Slavkovsky.
“Rose has made two goals in two very important games,” said Lee, “one in the seeding game against Blanchet and the other one today. Lately, she’s getting consistent in her finishing.”
Of the Lady Bulldogs, Bellahdid said, “Baker played with a big heart today and even though we pressured them and dominated throughout the game they never gave up.”
Bellahdid was pleased with his team and the way they mentally entered the match up.
“The girls went into the game with the attitude to win,” said Bellahdid, “and now winning is the only option if we’re going to survive.”
