Kiwanis holiday food program launched

Sisters area residents can make this holiday season a happy one for folks in need through the Sisters Kiwanis Holiday Food Drive.

The program provides Christmas dinner for needy and low-income families in the Sisters School District. In addition, The Nugget’s Furry Friends Pet Food Drive provides food for pets, and the Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire Protection District will distribute toys (see related story, page 28).

Applications for the program may be picked up at the Kiwanis House on the corner of Main Avenue and Oak Street or at SOAR, FAN, or local churches.

Applicants must be in the same income criteria as for the Kiwanis Food Bank, but they need not be food bank recipients.

Deadline for the return of applications is December 9. Applications may be dropped off at Kiwanis House or mailed to: P.O. Box 1296, Sisters OR 97759.

A card will be mailed to recipients to tell them when to pick up food, pet food and gifts. The items will be distributed at Sisters Elementary School on December 22.

Each family will receive food for a complete Christmas dinner plus gifts for their children. Food is purchased by Sisters Kiwanis; cash donations are preferred but food donations will be accepted.

Families with pets will receive food through The Nugget’s Furry Friends Pet Food Drive. Donations may be made at The Nugget office, 442 E. Main Ave. or mailed to P.O. Box 698, Sisters, OR 97759.

Cash donations are preferred to allow purchase of specifically required food.

Food donations are also welcome.
