News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Five of the Sisters High School varsity volleyball players were Capital Conference all-league selections. Kayla Krumveida, Claire Rerat, Heather Schaab and Kali Ulmer were all named first-team all-league and Jaci Armstrong was named second team.
Coach Chris Crosby had words of praise for all.
Senior Kayla Krumveida was the setter for the Lady Outlaws this year and a team leader.
“Kayla worked hard every day in practice and deserved to get this great recognition from the other coaches in the league,” Crosby said. “She has a great attitude and embodies what I want our younger players to aspire to.”
Claire Rerat, also a senior, was the team’s libero. Rerat was the league leader in votes for this defensive-specialist position. (A libero is a back-row-only player who can’t attack on offense. She wears a different-color jersey).
Crosby said, “Claire was our rock in the back row. Playing the libero position pretty much places a big red bull’s-eye on her back and other teams tested her night after night. She was always up to the challenge.”
Senior Heather Schaab earned first-team recognition as a middle hitter and was the Outlaws’ ‘go to’ girl throughout the season. Schaab led the team in blocks, hitting attempts and kills.
“We urged our setters to set Heather the ball at least 60 to 70 percent of the time because she made good things happen when she hit the ball,” said Crosby.
Rounding out the first-team selections was sophomore Kali Ulmer. Ulmer played outside hitter and actually started the season on the JV team.
“Kali proved early on she was ready to step up to the varsity level,” said Crosby, “and I think this first team award proves that. Kali is a great athlete and we are excited to have her for two more years.”
Jaci Armstrong won a second-team all-league spot.
“Jaci was our sparkplug,” said Crosby. “The whole team was encouraged by her great attitude every day. She did a great job for the team and was ready to play in multiple roles.”
