News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sierra Scherrer and Quincy Shepard of the Sisters Stompers 4-H Club donated $345 to the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity. The funds were raised throughout the last year by catering the “Fat and Fuzzy Buckle” show and various other catering and fund-raising events.
The club had many options for their donation but chose Habitat because they wanted to help people to get a home who otherwise might not be able to.
The funds donated will be matched by a grant from The Ford Family Foundation and will be used toward the construction of homes to be purchased by the Bantz and Florian families, according to Habitat director Sharlene Weed.
Construction will begin soon. The Ford Family Foundation approved a $25,000 challenge grant that Sisters Habitat hopes will be matched by the end of the year.
“We are excited about this contribution from the Sisters Stompers 4-H group and the opportunity presented by The Ford Family Foundation grant. It is contributions such as these that make it possible for Habitat to build homes for working families in the Sisters Community,” said Jeff Reents, President of Sisters Habitat for Humanity. “We hope that others will join with Sierra and Quincy to help Habitat match the grant.”
The Ford Family Foundation was established in 1957 by Kenneth W. and Hallie E. Ford “to give back to the community.”
