News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters Art Works will host pet photos with Santa Claus during the December 3 Grand Opening Celebration at the arts building on Adams Avenue.
Santa will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pet owners may bring their dog, their cat, their llama or their hamster to this Sisters holiday celebration.
Photos are $10 each and a portion of the proceeds benefit The Nugget’s Furry Friends Pet Food Drive, The Humane Society of Central Oregon and The Rotary Club of Sisters. Each pet owner will receive a 5-by-7-inch photo print for their pet’s photo collection (to be picked up at a later date). For $25 pet owners can purchase a CD with the image to be used for greeting cards, holiday cards, etc.
The Sisters Furry Friends project began in 1993 as a holiday food drive for pets in the Sisters area. The fund-raiser is held in conjunction with the Sisters Kiwanis Holiday Food Share Program that provides a complete Christmas dinner to low income-families and the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire Department Toy Drive for children.
Last year, Furry Friends distributed 4,400 pounds of food to 320 dogs, cats and a few other feathered and furry friends. Each family, depending on the number of pets, receives a minimum of one large bag of dry dog and cat food plus a goodie bag of dog cookies and other pet treats. Donations of dry cat and dog food, dog or cat treats and toys can be made at Sisters Art Works during the December 3 event. Cash donations are welcome to help purchase specific foods.
Sisters Art Works opened in October of 2005. It was designed to create a place in Sisters that celebrates creativity and community. Building tenants include visual artists, musicians, photographers, literary arts programs, language arts programming, as well as arts promoters and marketing experts.
In addition to office and studio spaces, the building also houses a workshop/classroom space with seating for between 12 and 25, a 70-seat performance venue, and a 12-seat board room.
The interior walls serve as exhibit space for tenants and invited artists to display their work and an outdoor sculpture garden and summer farmers market series are in the works.
