• An officer encountered a man walking westbound on Highway 20. The man said he was heading from Bakersfield, California, to Eugene on foot. The man was dressed warmly except for his tennis shoes.
The officer could not dissuade him from continuing his trek. The officer left and picked up some food, drink and a flashlight and returned to give them to the man. He also provided the man with a pair of wool socks.
The man allowed the officer to talk him into warming up at the station, but then he continued on his journey.
