News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters raised its voice in song on Sunday, December 4, as the Sisters Rotary Club staged its annual “Magical Voices of Christmas” concert at the Sisters High School auditorium.
The large crowd joined in several sing-along interludes, led by Randy King and Sisters High School/Middle School choir director Tara MacSween in traditional Christmas songs “Joy to the World,” “Deck the Halls” and “O Come, All Ye Faithful.”
MacSween also led the Magical Voices of Christmas Choir. The group of middle schoolers worked up their pieces during intensive sessions in the school’s interim week. They sang with powerful effect a hymn entitled “Peace, Peace” as the audience chimed in singing “Silent Night.”
The choir was joined by alumni to sing the traditional “Silver Bells.”
Rotarian Jim Craig presented MacSween with a check for $650 to benefit the middle school choir program.
The high school Jazz Choir performed five traditional carols and the elementary school choir led by Debi Schlatter filled the stage to offer three songs.
Singer Randy King and his wife, pianist Stephanie King, performed three numbers, the whimsical “Christmas Cookies,” O Tannenbaum” and “For God So Loved the World.”
A highlight of the evening was a performance by Dr. Mark Beudert of Portland State University’s School of Fine Arts. The opera singer, performing without amplification, offered up “O Divine Redeemer,” “I Wonder as I Wander” and “O, Holy Night.”
The event was staged with extensive sponsorship from Sisters area businesses.
