News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters resident Daniel Gillogley is one of 10 nominees selected to represent Central Oregon Community College on the 2005 “All-State Academic Team.”
The event, organized by the Oregon Community College Association, recognizes community college students for their academic achievement, leadership and service.
Gillogley, who has a 4.0 grade-point average, will earn his associate degree in structural fire science next spring and then return to finish his emergency medical services degree.
He hopes to continue his education—preferably in medical school—because he enjoys science and helping people.
“Daniel’s ability to excel in the classroom, his insatiable curiosity and love of learning, as well as his ability and dedication to helping others makes him an ideal candidate for this award,” said Risé Quay, assistant professor II of composition at COCC.
Julie Alberts, Heather Van Diest, Frank Dyess, Jorma C. Fletcher, Jake Grimm, Curt Kaler, Kaira Roos, Christina Thuerwachter and Tanayia L. White were also selected to represent the college.
In March two finalists will be selected to represent COCC at a luncheon honoring the student scholars hosted by Gov. Ted Kulongoski at the Capitol.
