Girls basketball team loses at tournament

The Lady Outlaws lost both of their games at the Cottage Grove Tournament on Friday and Saturday, December 9-10.

On Friday night Sisters suffered a heartbreaking 55-53 loss to Sutherlin in overtime.

The Outlaws held a 12-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second and third quarters Sisters scored only 20 points while giving up 33 points to Sutherlin. With five minutes to go in the game the Outlaws managed a great comeback and tied the game 47-47 but were unable to get the win in overtime.

Jenny Boswell led the Outlaws with 14 points. Katie Hughes had 13 points for the night and Cindy Harp added eight.

On Saturday the Outlaws lost 47-36 to tournament host Cottage Grove.

At the end of the first quarter the Outlaws were trailing 18-3.

Blevins said, “Nothing went right. We looked very lethargic, we didn’t have any intensity and we couldn’t buy a basket.”

Sisters fought back and had a great second quarter to close the gap to within four at 27-23 at the half.

The second half of the game was filled with turnovers for Sisters which resulted in the 47-36 loss. Jenny Boswell led the Outlaws again with 11 points.

“It was a nice tournament,” said Blevins, “and we had some good competition. We will continue to work on improving our game.”
