News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Robert Paul Newton, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother has gone to be with the Lord on December 9. A memorial service will be held in the Camp Sherman Community Center on Sat-urday, December 17 at 1 p.m.
Bob was born January 4, 1926, in Portland, Oregon, to Mary Fern and Paul D. Newton, the first born of three. Bob grew up in Portland and surrounding areas; he was an all-star athlete, enjoying many sports. He attended Grant High School and graduated from Newberg High School.
Bob enthusiastically joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany with the 63rd infantry during World War II.
During his studies at Oregon State University, Bob met his wife-to-be, Ethel June Jensen. They were married in 1947. After graduating from Oregon State, Bob went on to receive his Masters Degree from the University of Oregon. He began his career as teacher and coach in Crane. Later they moved to Mt. Vernon, Burns, and finally, Milwaukie.
Bob retired from the North Clackamas School District in 1983. Bob and June moved to Camp Sherman in 1983, where they settled into the community, enjoying many years together. Bob and June attended the Chapel In The Pines in Camp Sherman.
Bob was a very creative artist and writer, who excelled in whatever his heart desired to accomplish. He created the “Lazy JB Toy Works,” much to the delight of his family. Some of his work included painting, poetry, wood working, jewelry, cooking and perhaps his favorite was his storytelling.
Whatever his creations were, his greatest joy came from giving them to family and friends. He also loved to hunt, fish, and camp with family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him, and he will live on in our hearts through wonderful memories. We are so thankful to know that he is in the presence of the Glory of the Lord.
Bob is survived by his wife, June, and seven children: Linda Chaney, Milwaukie; Katherine Newton, Beaverton; Peggy Dryden, Lebanon; Bill Newton, Portland; Mike Newton, Benton City, Washington; Jeff Newton, Sisters; and Heidi Miller, Dayton, Nevada; 18 grandchildren: Rick, Andrew, Michelle, Ashleigh, Jeremy, Rose, Isaac, Peter, Anna, Mary, Daniel, Jensen, Charlie, Taya, Callaway, Lydia, Grace, Joshua; and six great-grandchildren: Gavin, Katherine, Samara, Isaiah, Carson and Owen. Bob is also survived by his sister, Carol Swanby, Lowman, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Newton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Camp Sherman Chapel In The Pines.
