Traffic crash closes highway for two hours

Four people suffered minor injuries Friday morning in a motor vehicle crash on the Santiam Pass on Highway 22 near Milepost 81.

According to Oregon State Police reports, on December 9, at approximately 10:15 a.m. a black 2003 Ford pickup driven by Demitri Snegirev, 39, of Woodburn, was westbound on Highway 22 when it lost control on the icy roadway and struck an oncoming vehicle, a blue 1990 Chevrolet pickup.

The driver of the Chevrolet pickup, Antonio Vazquez Olivarez, 29, and his passenger Elva Garcia-Najera, 29, both of Vancouver ,Washington suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.

Snegirev and his passenger Fedora Snegirev, age 39, from Woodburn, also suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.

All those involved were transported by ground ambulance to St. Charles Medical center in Bend where they were treated for minor injuries and released.

Everyone was reportedly wearing safety restraints at the time of the collision, according to OSP.

Highway 22 was shut down for approximately two hours during the investigation.

Oregon Department of Transportation and Black Butte Police assisted at the scene.

The highways around Sisters have been icy due to melting and freezing snow. Drivers are urged to be cautious, especially in the morning or at night.
