News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The full moon outside shone down on a full house at the Camp Sherman Community Hall last Thursday evening during the annual Black Butte School (BBS) Christmas show.
“This is our gift to the community,” declared head teacher Toni Foster.
Neatly attired students sang a variety of traditional Christmas songs they had selected from choices made by school volunteers.
Foster also thanked all of the volunteers who had helped in refurbishing the community hall. The hall’s lighting set the mood and the fireplace crackled with warming cheer.
Paula Lovegren directed the children’s choral group accompanied by Nancie Carmichael on the keyboards.
The evening festivities started with a dessert potluck, featuring items from apple to zucchini.
An adult trio, Bear Brown, Fran Head and Paula Lovegren, opened the musical evening with a delightful Christmas song. Foster then proudly introduced former students to her audience and told of their outstanding accomplishments at Sisters High School.
Next, students at BBS presented gifts to adult volunteers at the school with thanks for help in history, math and reading.
Foster announced that the school’s Christmas wreath sale had grossed over $10,000 for the school. She thanked all the volunteers who had worked on the project this year and folks who had purchased wreaths. She then introduced Kandia Cross, who was in charge of the successful operation.
After the children’s singing, the adult audience ended the melodious evening, singing three old-time Christmas favorites. A surprise visitor, Santa Claus, then made his appearance. He brought presents for the choral group as well as young children from the audience.
