Americana art project calling for artists

My Own Two Hands, the Americana Art Project 2006, is seeking artists of all ages to donate original pieces to the fifth annual community celebration. The two-day event includes a community art stroll, chili feed and performance evening and an art party and auction.

The 2006 My Own Two Hands theme is “Artist, Come Home,” the title of a poem by the renowned William Stafford, a past Poet Laureate of Oregon. “Artist, Come Home” is a celebration of home, family and community.

Donated pieces must be submitted on or before February 28. The donated art work will then be displayed in the Sisters community during the Art Stroll Friday, April 7, and again in the My Own Two Hands Art Party and Auction held at Ponderosa Forge & Ironworks on Saturday, April 8.

My Own Two Hands is a fund-raiser benefiting the Americana Project and arts in the Sisters schools and community. The Americana Project is a cross-curricular study for the exploration of American folk music and arts. Students learn to play the guitar and other instruments, write original songs, record, perform, and receive hands-on experience in traditional American folk arts and crafts.
