Student hopes to join medical program

Sisters resident Tani Honea has been nominated through the National Dean’s List for the International Scholar Laureate Program Delegation on Medicine.

Honea, 19, grew up in Sisters with her grandmother.

“I am currently a first generation college student attending my sophomore year at Central Oregon Community College,” she said. “I have been accepted to the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, and am planning on entering into their Medical Imaging Program in the fall of 2006. I will be majoring in Diagnostic Sonography (ultrasound) and will have earned my Bachelors Degree by the spring of 2009.”

The International Scholar Laureate Program, Delegation on Medicine brings exceptional students from colleges and universities around America to distant countries for experiential education in their field of study.

“This is a great honor to me, and the opportunity I would like to pursue,” she said. “I have the chance to travel to China, Australia, or South Africa for two weeks this summer, to experience the medical field first hand. Attending this program will enable me to develop my understanding of medicine and push me ahead toward my goal of eventually working in the field of medicine performing ultrasounds.”

Honea is currently raising funds to participate in the program. She needs to raise about $5,780.
