Coffield ready to launch two new books

Former Sisters resident Becky Coffield has announced the publication of two books in 2006.

“Life Was A Cabaret,” a finalist in the 2005 Pacific Northwest Writers Association Literary Contest, will debut exclusively in Oregon this summer. The book, an adventure/travel memoir, details Coffield’s six years traveling aboard her Cal 2-34 Cabaret sailboat.

The book, written over 25 years ago, was revived only last year.

“The book is a Northwest book,” Coffield said. “It is filled with Northwest people and places. My hope is that reading of my experiences, follies and mistakes will be of benefit to people new to sailing as well as old salts who will enjoy a good laugh.”

The book has been described as audacious, funny, and informative.

Coffield’s other venture, “Northern Escape” (Helm Publishing — due out in February) is a suspense novel set in southeast Alaska.

“Northern Escape” placed second in the unpublished novel category in the 2005 Arizona Authors Association Literary Contest.

“The book is more than just a murder and suspense. It is about decisions we all make that can irreversibly change our lives,” Coffield said.

The novel features an antagonist the reader will root for and introduces Detective Ben Thomas, the most gutsy, unorthodox cop since John Sandford’s Lucas Davenport.

A third book, “Northern Conspiracy,” also set in the Northwest, is currently under contract negotiations.

“Sisters is featured a bit in this novel. I couldn’t resist,” Coffield said.

The former Portlander and graduate of Lincoln High, Portland State University and Lewis and Clark College will be returning in June from Arizona for both books’ debut.

Coffield is a contributor to Central Oregon Horse Journal, Cascades East, RV Journal and Latitudes and Attitudes. Visit http://www.rlcoffield.com for more information.
