Sisters Nordic teams shoot for the top

The boys Nordic ski team posted its first-ever meet victory Saturday, January 21, beating three Northern Division rivals in a classic-style race at Mt. Bachelor.

The Outlaws placed six racers in the top 10 to score 19 points to overwhelm Corvallis (33), Redmond (40), and Cleveland (66).

Kelly Crowther was the runner-up (13:45) behind Max Foster of Redmond, who won the individual title in 12:50.

Jeremy Evan (14:38) and Stefan Redfield (14:42) placed fifth and sixth respectively to score for the Sisters squad, and Kyle Rickards (14:48) was next in seventh place. Lucas Glick (15:09) and Jacob Evan (15:37) finished ninth and tenth.

“It was good for our boys to be able to come out and dominate the other teams like that,” said coach Lee Fischer. “They are a tough group of skiers and are showing tremendous growth week by week.”

Sisters also captured the relay in 9:12, 11 seconds ahead of second place Corvallis.

The girls also placed well, finishing second behind league leader Redmond, which placed three racers in the top five.

Jena Rickards notched a third-place finish in 15:14 behind MacKenzie Allen of Redmond (14:38) and Sarah Hartley (14:58) to lead the Outlaws. Molly Blust finished eighth in 16:20 as the second finisher for Sisters, and Audrey Tehan wrapped up the scoring as the team’s third member across the line.

Complete results were unavailable.

The boys team moved into first place in the Northern Division standings with its victory Saturday and after Summit High School withdrew its team from the league last week. The girls are in second place behind Redmond.

The team travels to the Teacup Classic on Mount Hood January 28 for its next Northern Division Race.
