News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Deanna Robinson, Chair of the Sisters Library Art Committee, saluted those who made the maginificent Sisters Library Grand Opening Art Show a success:
“The first Sisters Art Exhibit showing at the Sisters Library from January 21 to March 1, is an historic event. Not only did its opening coincide with the Grand Opening of the new library building, the exhibit also is the first comprehensive representation of local artists under one roof.
“The 2006 Sisters Art Exhibit encompasses over 150 works created in a wide variety of media by 75 artists, all of whom live in the Sisters School District. The Sisters Library Art Committee believes that this initial exhibit will grow into an annual celebration of our artistic community.
“Many people worked hard to realize this show.
“Sisters Library Art Committee members Dwight Smith, Peg Bermel, Kathy Deggendorfer, Paul Alan Bennett, Jim Anderson and Jean Nave planned the show, invited the participants, took care of the publicity and tended to all the nitty-gritty details of mounting such a large effort. Conrad Weiler is creating a photographic record of the show in CD form. The CD will be on sale around Sisters in the near future.
“Myrna Dow from Sisters’ High Desert Gallery hung the show. We cannot thank her enough for her artistic skill and exemplary sense of humor.
“The big quilts were attached to the rafters by ‘that-guy-on-the-tall-ladder,’ Alan from the Deschutes Public Library System, with the advice of the “girls” from The Stitchin’ Post, Jackie Erickson and Annette Caldwell. Thanks to Jean Wells Keenan, not only for her advice, but also for loaning us Jackie and Annette.
“Friends of the Sisters Library members Jackie Gerland, Norma Funai, and Cathy Ehlers accepted the submitted artworks and persuaded their creators to fill out interminable forms.
“The Friends of the Sisters Library and Kathy Deggendorfer found the funds to pay for the show and the art hanging apparatus.
“The committee wishes to thank the library staff and all the artists and library patrons who innocently entered the building while the show was going up and were instantly put to work.”
