Sisters company creates visual display

The 40,000 travelers passing through the Redmond Airport each month can see something new — a high-tech advertisement that is actually pleasant to look at.

Sisters-based Fluid Images Film and Video Production has installed three High Definition plasma monitors which show more than a 12-foot width of beautiful scenes of Central Oregon interspersed with advertisements. Fluid Images president Rick Johnson knew the technology was successful when he passed through the airport himself and saw his fellow travelers stop and watch the screens.

“It catches your eye,” said Johnson. “Being that big, it’s almost like a movie. People were sitting and watching.”

Captive Media Solutions, a division of Fluid Images, spent months researching the new technology to showcase these wide images. They synchronized three cameras filming simultaneously to bring stunning images of Smith Rock, Paulina Peak and other Central Oregon scenery to airport travelers.

Since the new advertising medium began last fall, the airport and advertisers have been pleased with the positive reception. Fluid Images is now working to take their wide screen concept to other airports and to other public places such as universities and discovery centers.

There is not a noisy announcement voiced-over the beauty shots or advertisements, making the whole effect relaxing.

“That was the main goal — to keep it entertaining,” said Johnson.

Fluid Images is already well-known internationally in the entertainment business for creating the world’s tallest camera called Strada Crane. With that technology, they have shot sweeping views for sporting events including the Olympics and for hundreds of movies including Titanic. The company has six Emmy Awards.
