News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaws basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 44-43 loss to the No. 2-ranked Stayton Eagles at home on Tuesday, February 14.
At the end of the first quarter the Outlaws were down 22-13.
Coach Bill Blevins said, “We had the game at a pace we wanted but it didn’t pay off until the second quarter. They (Stayton) were going at a pace they weren’t used to and had a lot of turnovers.”
Sisters held Stayton to just one point in the second period. The Outlaws closed the Eagle lead to four points at the half at 23-19.
The Outlaws took the lead midway through the fourth quarter and then gave it up with less than one minute left in the game.
“We played well enough to win, but just couldn’t come through,” said Blevins.
Katie Hughes said, “Overall, we played good and we were mentally and physically into the game. But at the end we should have held the ball and been tougher. We should have taken our time getting up the court instead of just throwing it away.”
Hughes led the Outlaws with 15 points. Jenny Boswell had 10 points and eight assists and Cindy Harp finished with five points and nine rebounds.
Three days later the Outlaws lost 42-33 at Cascade.
It was a closer game than the score indicates. In the final quarter Sisters cut the Cascade lead to four points. The Outlaws were forced to foul to stay in the game. Unfortunately for Sisters, the Cougars hit their shots and the game ended in a loss for the Outlaws.
Jenny Boswell finished the night with 10 points and seven rebounds.
