News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Dr. Valery Shean, a veterinarian missionary living in Uganda, will be in Sisters for some speaking presentations on March 7-8.
“Dr. Val,” as she is affectionately known by the people of Uganda, has served with Christian Veterinary Missions in East Africa for nearly 15 years. She will visit a women’s Bible study at Three Sisters Fellowship on Tuesday March 7, from 9 to 11 a.m.
She will focus on the work she has done with women and their families in Uganda. Shean will do a similar presentation at another women’s study, with a longer time to visit afterwards, on Wednesday, March 8 from noon to 1 p.m. at Sisters Coffee Company.
Both talks are open to the public, but are especially geared to women. Also on Tuesday, Dr. Shean will also be visiting Dave Glick’s guide room at Sisters Middle School, which raised money to be used toward the purchase of a newer truck she will use to navigate the rugged roads in and around Karamoja.
Her old, faithful Toyota pickup is literally breaking apart, according to her sister Deirdre Kanzig, who is helping coordinate Dr. Val’s visit to Sisters. Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Shean will visit the youth group at Three Sisters Fellowship to converse with the young people about Christian responses to world poverty.
All young people grades 6-12, as well as adults, are welcome. Shean, who is supported by churches throughout Oregon, will include slides of her work in Africa, as well as interesting items from Uganda. For more information, contact Deirdre Kanzig at 549-0920.
