News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Folks in Sisters can celebrate the wearin’ o’ the green at the Sisters Public Library on March 16, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with the local trio A Scottish Heart.
The performance, part of the library’s Café Libri series, is free and open to the public.
Since 1994, Irene Goodnight, Becky Duncan and Steve Allely have been playing, arranging and performing traditional Scottish and Irish music together as “A Scottish Heart.”
Goodnight, who plays fiddle in the group, is joined by Duncan on piano and Allely on bodhran, tinwhistles and Uillean pipes. Goodnight credits the group’s deep knowledge of traditional music to ongoing education and a deep love of traditional music.
“We attend Valley of the Moon Scottish music school workshops in both Oregon and California and pore over sources to develop our traditional sound,” she said.
Last year, A Scottish Heart was invited to attend the Master’s Conference in California where they studied with world-renowned Scottish masters on piano and fiddle.
