News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The new Sisters Library has passed its shakedown trials and is operating like a well-oiled machine. Now it is time for you to bring all those fine used books you have been saving to the library for the Friends of the Sisters Library book sales.
All you need to do is place those wonderful old books, tapes, videos, and CDs in a sturdy box and bring them to the circulation desk at the new library during regular hours.
DO NOT place donations in the library book return or leave them anyplace except at the circulation desk.
Over the years of book sales the Friends have found that while some books are pure gold, others just do not sell no matter how good a shape they are in. Here is a suggested list of what books the Friends need and what are best disposed of by recycling:
The Friends need:
Humor; music; economics; anthropology; children’s; essays; youth; biography; environmental; science; nature; wildlife; outdoor activities; photography; poetry; science and technology; current travel guides; political science; history; arts & crafts; all fiction; quilting (what else!); home building & decorating; cooking; sports; livestock; horses; sociology; travel and adventure; up-to-date reference books; audio tapes; farming; humor; dance; video tapes, CDs and DVDs
The Friends cannot use:
Psychology; self-help; text books; religion; medical; out-of-date travel guides; business advice; computer manuals.
The Knott Landfill Recycling Station will take all books for recycling.
Income of $3,000 to $4,000 from the thousands of books sold at past Friends of the Sisters Library book sales — including small paperbacks which sell for 50 cents each — has gone into many areas of our new library: furniture, reading room fireplace and decorations, shelves, advertising (posters) and artwork.
