News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
As the owners of Sisters Inn & RV Park get ready to add some new commercial development to their site, manager Dave Elliott is trying to find a way to preserve the Sisters Inn pavilion.
Elliott hopes to move the pavilion from Sisters Inn to the new Cliff Clemens Park at the north end of Sisters.
“There’s very few building moving outfits that can move a building of that size,” Elliott said.
Guessing that the moving cost will run between $30,000 and $35,000, Elliott hopes a variety of users might help finance the move to preserve the building as an event venue. The Sisters Jazz Festival currently uses the pavilion as a venue and the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce has hosted its auction there for several years.
Elliott thinks other groups might be interested in using the pavilion, particularly in its new setting. Cliff Clemens Park was designed by the City of Sisters to be a site for events and festivals and it’s two or three blocks closer to the downtown core than the RV Park.
“It’s ready to go,” Elliott said. “It’s got power — all we need to do is get the building there.”
The owners of Sisters Inn & RV Park are donating the building to the community.
Elliott noted that “there’s a time crunch” to save the building. The pavilion is in the path of development for one of four highway commercial-zoned lots on the property — lots the owners intend to develop soon.
One of the potential uses that has been discussed is a bank, Elliott noted.
“(The pavilion’s) got to be moved or destroyed,” Elliott said. “I don’t want to see it destroyed.”
