Sisters salutes...

• From Sisters Outlaws Swim Coach Isolde Hedemark:

“As the 10th season for Sisters High School Swimming drew to a close, I had time to reflect on a decade of practices, ever increasing student interest in this sport, the teams’ successes along the way, and the unparalleled generosity of individuals and businesses in our community.

“First off, I want to express my gratitude to site council members Lori Hancock and Ann Jacobson for trying to secure a second training facility for the group of swimmers that could not be accommodated at the Glaze Meadow Pool this season. Thank you to Jan and Dave Elliott, Managers of the Sisters Inn, for their immediate response to let the Swim Team work out in the motel pool. And last, but certainly not least, I would like to recognize the relentless efforts of Kathy Stuwe, who worked with a largely novice group of athletes and lent support to all swimmers during District Championships in Albany.

“Thank you to the management and the homeowners at Black Butte Ranch, who not only offer their pool and equipment to the Swim Team free of charge, but also support the entire student body at Sisters High School with numerous scholarships and summer employment.

“Our children are fortunate to grow up in a community where academics, the arts and athletics are supported so generously by businesses and individuals alike.”

• Abby Merickel offered a “Hats off to the wonderful teachers and students in the arts wing at Sisters High School. Your vision and talent made the first ever ‘Block Party’ a resounding success.

“It was great to see the terrific turnout of students, parents, teachers and the community at large celebrating the Arts. A great big thank you to Mr. Mike Baynes and all the amazing, cool and groovy visual arts students under his inspiring guidance. I learned so much from all of you. Thank you for the most rewarding and enriching student teaching experience. Viva the Arts at Sisters High.”
