News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
For the second year in a row a Sisters Middle School student won the Central Oregon Regional Spelling Bee held Saturday, March 4, at Bend Senior High School.
Adam Cash, a sixth grader in Wes Estvold’s class, spelled “envoy” correctly in the final round of four surviving spellers to win first place in the sixth-through-eighth-grade category.
On his way to victory, Cash beat out last year’s winner, seventh grader Jordan Rudinsky, also of Sisters Middle School, who was eliminated when he tripped up on the word “pneumonia.”
Cash received a $1,000 savings bond, which was presented by Community First Bank, Trimble and Everton CPA, and Horizon Broadcasting Group.
Seventy-six students qualified for the Regional Spelling Bee from schools in the Bend-La Pine, Redmond, Crook County, Sisters, and Jefferson County School Districts.
“At least I’ll have money to use toward books for college,” said Cash.
Adam is the son of Julie and Brian Cash of Sisters.
